Narrating Remembrance 2016-2019
Rooted in memories of my childhood as the daughter of a Jewish dissident family in Soviet Russia, this body of work reflects on the lasting effects of political oppression, anti-Semitism, and fear. Wrapped and bound figures emerge as emotional recollections rather than portraits, where the adult body bears witness to the fears, resilience, and hope of a young girl coming of age under oppression. Through drawing, cloth, and thread, I unravel personal histories that resonate beyond my own, honoring the women who quietly resisted Soviet oppression while preserving their dignity, identity, and hope.
